Sweet Dreams Sequence

Supta Baddha Konasana

benefits:
regulates blood pressure
relieves indigestions
relieves menstrual and sciatic pain

Lay on your back. Touch the outer edges of the feet together to lengthen the inner thighs. Bend the knees wide and draw your feet close to your hips. Gently roll your inner arms and hands open. Relax them completely. Soften your eyes, jaw, and throat. Stay in this shape for 10 deep naval breaths.

Apanasana

benefits:
relieves lower back pain
relieves gastrointestinal discomfort calming and nurturing

Lay supine, supporting the back of the head with a blanket. Keep the knees together and hold them into your chest. Relax the feet. Lengthen the lower back by moving your buttocks away from you and tilting the tailbone up and away from the floor. Lengthen all four sides of the torso and relax the abdomen muscles into the body. Keep your chin perpendicular to the floor. Every inhale, feel the lungs expand. Every exhale, feel the navel deepen. Stay in the shape for 10 breaths.

Eka Pada Apanasana

benefits:
relieves lower back pain
relieves gastrointestinal discomfort calming and relaxing

As noted with Apanasana, but extend one leg forward. Keep the extended leg straight, releasing the inner thigh towards the floor. Flex the foot to release the hip flexor. Every inhale, feel the straight leg lengthen, every exhale hug the shin of the belt leg into your chest. Breathe for 10 rounds of breath.

Prasarita Padottanasana

benefits:
stretches hamstrings and inner thighs lowers blood pressure
calms the mind

Separate the feet wider than hips width apart in parallel. Place your hands on the floor, with palms shoulder distance apart. Bend the arms and align your elbows over your wrists. The crown of the head rests on the floor or a block. Lift up from the inner thighs and hamstrings. Shift your body weight forward into the balls of the feet, allowing the pelvis to lift off the legs. Lengthen the torso. Keeping the neck long, move your shoulders away from your ears. Every inhale, feel the spine lengthen. Every exhale, feel the navel lift and the shoulders soften.

Upavistha Konasana

benefits:
cooling and calming
releases and stretches the muscles of the thighs and hips

Extend your legs wide at an approximate right angle of each other. Press your heels into the floor and flex your toes towards the ceiling. Balance evenly on both sitting bones, releasing the tailbone into the floor. Lengthen all four sides of the waist, extending the sternum away from the navel. Hold forward, resting your forehead a block in front of you.

Express Yo-Self

There are over 7 billion people on Earth. In the Bay Area alone, over 7 million occupants exist together in a 6,000 square mile radius. To top that, a whopping 8.4 million reside in New York City.

Living in a city, it’s easy to normalize constant submergence with the public. Visualize the 8am Monday morning Muni ride downtown in San Francisco. A sardine-like scenario, as you’re pressed up against the sea of strangers. Or, sitting in the 24-7 parking lot that is the Bay Bridge; surrounding vehicles honking back and forth like urban songbirds. Better yet, the experience of putting your name down at Mission Beach Cafe for Sunday brunch—daunting indeed. Go ahead and release your jaw— it may have subconsciously clenched through this imagery.

Millions of people exist amongst each other; interviewing for the same jobs, connecting on the same social media sites, dating the same singles. In a world with so many people, how do you differentiate yourself?

In light of how InYo came to be (yoga leggings, as expressive as the practice itself), I began thinking about self expression.

What are the different platforms in which individuals express themselves? Why is this important?

In the spirit of exploration, I dare you to look beyond what’s “trending” and think about your own sense of self. How do you express who you are?

Here’s a snap shot of what the Bay Area has to say:

“How do I express my personality? I’d say yoga, practicing meditation, engaging with strangers because I'm curious. Through being open and excited about new experiences, thinking about each day as a new adventure. Through sharing my feelings to close friends and family to feel connected” - Alicia Cass, Sales Executive at Omada Health

"Remembering and reminding others that life is beautiful. Bringing a smile to another person's face. Connection with myself and nature."- Kylee Slevin, Pilates Instructor at UCSF

“I draw so much inspiration from listening to people and hearing their stories. I feel inspired and connected to the world through people. As a runner I value time spent alone on the road as a time for inward reflection. To connect to myself allows me to stay true to who I am, helps me make decisions that I'm proud of, while maintaining balance in my life so I'm a happier more peaceful version of myself. It can also be as simple as choosing to put on a bright shade of lipstick as a vibrant expression!” - Breana Marino, Masters Student at Erikson Institute

"Details are everything for me. I feel inspired by them. It's like a cog... a relationship. It can be between music, art, movement, and travel. I get the same feeling when I smell a new scent or go to a new place. So I wear a pink lattice back bra with soft leggings for dance and morning yoga. Then for a little street style, I pair it with a silk top and trench coat for a tailored effect. I can wear fringed boots or python print pumps to offset the formality with a little edge. Beauty and function makes me more active, so it's important to have both.” - Rena Macapagal, Financial Management at San Francisco Federal Credit Union

“Accept your artfulness.” - Claire Jee, Voice Instructor at Studio Grand

"Honesty & choices. I feel when I am living a life of being honest with myself (however difficult it may be to face) and make decisions based on honesty with myself, I am better able to express myself creatively. Also natural habitat helps a lot to get me charged and excited about the world around me.” - Amber Hockeborne, Photographer

“Self expression is born from a need. Like breathing or sleeping, expression for the creative self is a necessity. One of my favorite quotes about talent is that it's a cheap commodity, cheaper than table salt. Being creative isn't about a talent, it's about expression.

For me, expression becomes bigger than myself. Bigger than my mind, my body, my heart. It's an entity that thrives and begins to grow from its own energy. It becomes literal and abstract in every form. Creativity gives way to personal growth.”  - Ryan Stephens, District Sales Manager at Dermalogica

Why is being expressive important? Because, amongst the 7 billion, there are no duplicates. You are a unique contributor that is different from anyone who has come before, or after.

Whether it’s through clothing, interests, careers, there are many ways to exude who you are. Be bright, be bold, be authentic, be sensitive, be literate, be mathematical, be intellectual, be spiritual, be expressive, but most important...

be YO-Self.

What a Whirl! Celebrating 2014

Dear InYo World,

I'd like to introduce myself, in case we have not yet had the pleasure of meeting.

I'm Rachel.  Founder, creative director, designer, production manager, patternmaker, grader, sample sewer, customer service rep and fulfillment department of InYo.

The last year and a half of my life has been dedicated to starting a company: from raising funds on Kickstarter to seeing it through. Building and growing. Sustaining. I'm glad no one told me how difficult it would be. That's a lie, actually. I was warned. I was told, "No matter how well you think you've prepared, things will go wrong that you never thought possible." We endured and improved.  Because the only ones who fail are those who stop trying.

Year "One" was successful.  It was a year of figuring it out. It was finding the best fabric. It was managing production timelines. It was making too many ... then not making enough.

Year "One" was staying in the studio until 10, 11, midnight and only pulling myself away once in full zombie mode. It was showing up and not having a clue how to run a business ... staring at a to-do list and still not knowing where to start ... and starting anyway.

Year "One" was being featured in Shape. It was Rachel Brathen, aka "Yoga Girl" posting a photo herself wearing InYos on her wedding day then having InYo polka dotties immediately sell out.

Year "One" was successful.  Hugely successful. It was trying, failing, learning, trying again, and succeeding.

This coming year will be a year of new prints, new styles, new inspiration. Of finding flow. Of finding rhythm. A year of building community and sisterhood. A year of CELEBRATION.

Happy New Year ... let's do this.

Exciting News! It's GO TIME!

I am beyond thrilled, excited (and relieved) to announce that we found our new fabric and we're ready to ROCK!  After four long months of trips to LA, supplier meetings, and not-quite-good-enough samples, we partnered with a fabric mill (right here in California) to custom develop an InYo fabric with the same soft yummliness, quick-drying performance, and necessary thickness to cover your booty.  I've been beta testing the new fabric in the hottest and sweatiest classes and I think you'll love it!

We cannot thank you Kickstarter backers and early customers enough for your incredible patience through our start-up phase. Your supportive e-mails and encouraging words keep me energized and I am so grateful of your understanding that quality is not worth sacrificing for delivery times.

You can track our production timeline here: www.inyowear.com/pages/production

I understand this fabric hiccup caused quite the delay, but I am so grateful for the lessons learned and the exciting new partnership that keeps every step of production Made in America.  We're going NEXT LEVEL baby!

With love and gratitude,
Rachel

We are getting closer and closer to getting your InYos to you! The new sample fabrics are currently being printed in LA. As soon as they arrive, we'll do the hot-and-sweaty yoga test then order the fabric for production. We are aiming for delivery by early April.

Thank you again for your incredible patience!  It will be rewarded... ;)

So the fabric search continues, but I am thrilled about our most recent find:
a state-of-the-art, vertically integrated fabric mill....right here in California.

With the ability to custom weave new fabrics, I'm very hopeful they'll be able to develop an InYo fabric that consistently passes the quality, softness, and (elusive) bend tests. This means faster production, no more "bad batches," and a fabric woven in the USA.  I'm excitedly anticipating the fabric samples next week.

Keeping you waiting is keeping me up at night, so I'd like to offer to ship Leggies LITES for you to rock under skirts/dresses, to enjoy as PJs, or for your home yoga practice.

I also have a few of the tie-dye and snake leggies/shorties still available if you would like to swap prints.

Looking forward to a new year and new fabric! We hope you're excited because 2014 is going to be BIG!

Much love and gratitude,
Rachel

InYo Fabric Under an Electron Microscope...

The micro-camo, tie-dye, and snake prints are almost done!  I expect to start shipping them late next week.  Still waiting for the sample yardage from the new suppliers (yes, it's been 4 weeks since I placed the order *!#?!) but one of the fabric options is confirmed as en route from LA. The other top contender is at the printing factory. I expect they will arrive within 1-2 weeks and I can whip up the samples for testing.

In the meantime, I've been playing mad scientist analyzing the fabrics. Check out these cool photos from my smarty-pants buddies Tim and Matt:

Quite beautiful, no?

I apologize this update doesn't give you a definitive date on the new pairs, but we are getting very close. Thanks again for your incredible patience through this process.

Much love and gratitude,

Special thanks to Tim and Matt.  If anyone has access to DSC or FT-IR, let's play!

My Fabric Adventure and New Print Options

I'm back from my fabric sourcing mission with a quick update ... (if you missed the latest news, you can catch up here...)

I spent an amazing four days in LA:  I met seven new fabric distributors, got the behind-the-scenes tour of the sublimation printing factory, and came back with handfuls of fabric swatches.

Now, I am eagerly awaiting the sample yardage of the top fabric contenders so I can do performance testing.

Since this hiccup has caused such a delay, I want to offer an early release of my new tie-dye and snake prints (fortunately these were printed on the good fabric lot!) These prints, as well as more micro-camo, are currently at the cutting factory and I estimate will be ready in mid-December. I only have ~50 pairs of each print so I can offer the swap until I run out.

If you want to swap prints, shoot me a quick reply with your style (shorties or leggies), size, and new print selection(s) - micro-camo, tie-dye, or snake.  Otherwise, I will keep your original order on track and continue to send progress updates. Thank you again for your patience and understanding!

Much love and gratitude,
Rachel

Where My InYos at?

You may have recently received a partial order, a shipping confirmation, or nothing at all and you may be wondering, “Yo girl, where my InYos at?”

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a Kickstarter update saying the polka dotties and watercolors were printed on a bad lot of fabric and new ones would be ready in 4-6 weeks. That was when I thought I could order, print, cut, sew, ship. As I took the next steps to make things right, I learned a few new things:

1. It wasn’t just the polka dotties and watercolors - it was in fact my entire most recent order of 600 yds including the giraffeness, cloudies, and micro-camo, that were printed on fabric that was slightly different (and more sheer) than my originally approved fabric.

2. The entire lot of fabric that the fabric company has in stock falls under the too-sheer category.

3. The newly manufactured lot is 4 weeks out and its sheerness is an unknown.

So I paused all shipments, (cried a little), then sorted hundreds of InYos and sent out as many good pairs as possible with the hope I could get at least one pair to every backer, but fell short in numbers.

How did this happen?

Well, I made a rookie mistake and missed a critical quality test. Word from my supplier is that it passed all the QC on their end, but it doesn’t pass on my end, and I should have caught it sooner.  Call it ignorance, naivete, or wishful thinking but I had high hopes that production would run perfectly despite warnings that the very nature of production is that even if you think you’ve covered every detail, something will go wrong.

While ideally I would have caught this sooner (actually, ideally I would have 700 pairs of perfect pants), I’m grateful for the lessons learned…and I’m grateful to learn with 700 pairs and not 7,000.

So what’s next?

I’m headed to L.A. this week to look for new fabric. I have appointments lined up with the suppliers of top athletic brands (one of which rhymes with hulu).  So what turns out to be a big bummer of a speedbump may actually be an incredible opportunity to step up the game.

I sincerely hope I have not let you, my customers, down, but I am excited to learn and continue learning so that InYo keeps getting better and better. I am so thankful for your support through these growing pains.

More updates coming soon…. Until then, I won’t let this happen to you:

With humility, love, and gratitude,

Rachel

Whew! Close call! ...(polka dotties & watercolor delay)

Hi Kickstarter backers!

I am so bummed to tell you that I had to pause shipments of the polka dotties and watercolor orders.

During our packing party late last night, we discovered that the polka dotties and watercolor pants are not up to quality standards due to a bad lot of fabric.

I have placed the new fabric order and expect (rushed) production to take 4-6 weeks. If you ordered multiple pairs, we will continue to send the cloudies, micro-camo, and giraffeness.

Thank you so much for understanding and for your patience! We've been busting our booties to meet the estimated deadline of October - but making sure your booties are opaquely covered is a much higher priority!

Thank you again for all your incredible support.

BIG InYo Thank You & Update

Hello Kickstarter Backers!

Day 16 and we just hit $17,000!  Incredible! Thank you!

The last two weeks we've been diligently working to finalize production details as well as develop the men's sizes.

Here are a few photos of what we've been working on...

With 14 days left before the project closes on August 18th, we posted a couple big updates:

    • Men's sizes! The men's fit has been enthusiastically tested and approved. Our beta tester, Drew, says "These are more comfortable than my underwear!"  Men: just select the shorties or leggies reward of your choice and you will indicate your men's size when we send out the backer survey.
        • More rewards! A few of you mentioned you would like to give InYo as gifts, so we added a few more reward tiers.  Just click "Manage Your Pledge" to change your reward at any time before the project closes.

We are so grateful for such an incredible group of backers! HUGE thanks to everyone who has backed the project as well as shared, liked, and tweeted InYo to your networks.

Thank you so much for your support!
